reading-the-bible-2Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.”

David is eager to learn. He is eager to learn so that he might know the right way to walk. He knows that he needs help if he is going to walk rightly. He asks God to make his heart fear appropriately.

God is wonderful and full of majesty. I am reminded of his awful glory from this text. Often I am oblivious to this consuming fire. Like David, I must ask the LORD to help me to think correctly of him. Even when I am unaware, he is still glorious. That makes my heart glad. He is unchangeably awesome whether I recognize it or not. But oh that I would recognize it! Oh, that I would taste the splendor of his majesty! That he might be my delight all the day. Captivate my wandering heart oh LORD and make me to fear your name, that all the world would grow strangely dim in light of a single-minded focus on you. God has revealed his glory to me and yet I know – indeed I long, to go deeper into his wonder. Oh, like a deer pants for flowing streams so I want to know more of my God.
