Recently Jon Bloom posted a blog on praying for your children. He lists seven prayers to pray for your children and gives biblical references for each. I am always looking for biblical prayers to pray over our three little ones and find that I need to be led by God’s word or the words of my prayers can fall flat. Of the seven listed these three stuck out to me:
- That they will respond in faith to Jesus’s faithful, persistent call (2 Peter 3:9).
- They they will experience sanctification through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and will increasingly desire to fulfill the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37-39).
- That their thoughts will be pure (Philippians 4:8).
I am reminded that the salvation and formation of our children lies with God. He can do what we as parents cannot do. My first prayer is that the Lord would teach me to be a Father who prays unceasingly for his children.
